I was born in Barcelona and have lived in the UK for many years now. I'm a writer, translator (English-Spanish and vice-versa) and I'm a medical doctor and worked in Forensic Psychiatry many years. I also have a BA and a PhD in American Literature and Film, and a Masters in Criminology. I've always loved books and apart from writing them I review them often. I write a bit of everything, check my books for more information and my about page for links. My blog is bilingual, English and Spanish.

  1. A great review of this book, Olga. Real life is definitely a bit scary sometimes.

    1. Thanks, Robbie. My life is nothing like this but you’re very right. Have a great Wednesday

  2. I’m watching it on tv just and it sounds like the makers are following the book pretty closely.

    1. Thanks, Mary! I only caught a couple of the episodes and I’ve read there is a second series being prepared and the writer is working for them. She also has sold the rights to some of her other books, so I’ll keep my eyes open for it. The writing is very crisp and funny for sure but there are dark moments.

  3. I tend to avoid any TV series like this one, and any book labelled ‘chick-lit’. However, I love the Bridget Jones adaptations, and that was considered to be ‘chick-lit’. So, maybe…
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Very good writing, Pete. I’m off on my travels again but I have quite a few posts programmed for the rest of the week and next week. Love to Ollie and take care.

Fabulous insight here Olga. I watched season one of the series and am hugely hooked! Thanks for sharing more about this author because if her other books are as captivating, I’ll be reading them all. I won’t read this book until I’ve watched the whole series. The season left off on a nice cliffhanger. So I think I’ll read another of Liane’s books before then. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Debby. I must read more of hers too, and we better be quick, as TV are snatching the rights to all of them. Have a great day, Debby!

        Thanks Olga. You too. 🙂

        1. 🙂

  5. I read this a while back, and couldn’t agree with yoiu more, Olga. Moriarty is SUCH a good writer – she gets the humor,. pathos, and guilt of a woman’s life so well. I doubt I will watch the series on TV – I’m usually disappointed after reading the book.

    1. Yes, you’re right. She’s a keen observer of women and this book is very finely balanced. Hopefully, the series will get some people to read her books too but the voice in the book is very well done. I haven’t seen enough of the series to comment, although I think Reese Whitherspoon was pretty smart choice for Melanie.
