I was born in Barcelona and have lived in the UK for many years now. I'm a writer, translator (English-Spanish and vice-versa) and I'm a medical doctor and worked in Forensic Psychiatry many years. I also have a BA and a PhD in American Literature and Film, and a Masters in Criminology. I've always loved books and apart from writing them I review them often. I write a bit of everything, check my books for more information and my about page for links. My blog is bilingual, English and Spanish.

  1. omg, Olga, I thought your review was terrific and thought it was a book I’d enjoy – until I saw the True Blood opening credits. It looks terrifying! Is the book that scary?

    1. Thanks, Mary. Well, it depends on what you consider scary. It is not a horror novel, by any stretch of the imagination. Although there are some pretty horrific things that happen, or are explained, during the book. The True Blood opening credits’ thing, is more a matter of atmosphere for me, and some of the scenes where we see a church congregation that brought it to mind (I must confess I think they did a great job with it and love the song, but then, I’m a bit twisted that way). But, if you are truly afraid of snakes and have a big imagination, I’d issue a trigger warning here.
In all honesty, I’ve read far more violent and explicit thrillers (and yes, horror books), but the atmosphere in this one is quite something.
I hope you give it a go, Mary. (And don’t worry, no vampires at all!)
      Have a great week!

  2. This sounds like something I would like, and I can already ‘see’ the film adaptation working well too. 🙂
    Thanks, Olga.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Thanks, Pete. Yes, I think you would. I’ve just finished reading a book that I think would remind you of many films (it sure has with me!) Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Sally. It is. Have a lovely week!

  3. Sounds like a book I’d enjoy. Great review, Olga!

    1. Thanks, Luccia. I think you will. 🙂
