I was born in Barcelona and have lived in the UK for many years now. I'm a writer, translator (English-Spanish and vice-versa) and I'm a medical doctor and worked in Forensic Psychiatry many years. I also have a BA and a PhD in American Literature and Film, and a Masters in Criminology. I've always loved books and apart from writing them I review them often. I write a bit of everything, check my books for more information and my about page for links. My blog is bilingual, English and Spanish.

  1. I didn’t know the author Dawn French was the fabulous Dawn French on my television. (I know, where have I been?) Good review, it sounds like a feel-good book.

    1. Thanks, Priscilla. The name and the surname are not that uncommon, although I didn’t know she had written fiction either, so it’s true that you’ll always learn something new. She is multitalented, and yes, ultimately it is a feel-good book, although there are much turmoil and emotion on the way. Have a great week! And keep safe.

  2. I didn’t know Dawn French had written fiction. This one sounds good. Must check it out and whatever other novels she has written.

    1. It was news to me as well, Mary. I got an e-mail from the publishing company inviting me to request her novel, and it got me curious enough to check. Then I realised it was one of the publishers I was automatically approved for, and as I had been reading many books in the same genre it seemed a good way to have a bit of a break. I’ll also investigate further, because based on this novel, I’d happily read the rest as well. Have a good week, Mary. Sending you positive energy and hugs. ♥

    1. Yes, I’m with you there. Now I know I love her books as well. Take care and thanks for commenting.

  3. I have seen her plugging her books on TV in the past, so knew she was selling a lot of them. I always found her a bit ‘too much’ in her comedy roles, to be honest, and your comments about the policeman being a buffoon do not surprise me. However, when she is just being herself, I have always thought she came across as warm and friendly, though that never enticed me to read her stuff. But I naturally trust your judgement, and have no doubt this book will be a big hit.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Thanks, Pete. I didn’t think this book would be a good match for you, but I have a few you might be more interested in. And even an extra post coming up on Wednesday!
Do take care and keep safe.

Well now, this just sounds like a must read for me Olga. Thanks for introducing us to Dawn’s writing. I knew she was a TV personality, but not about her books. I’m in! 🙂 Be well! xx

Just came back from Amazon. This will have to wait as I have a very hard time paying almost $20 for an ebook! Sorry, not happening. 🙁 I wouldn’t pay that for anyone’s book. Ebook that is.

    1. That’s the problem with traditionally published books. There is hardly any difference between e-books and paperbacks. I read it because I got it through NetGalley, but I wouldn’t have paid that amount either. Mind you, they tend to cut prices or have offers often, so it’s worth putting a book on your wish list, as they tend to contact you if the price goes down. And Bookbub also contacts if one of the books on your list is on offer. The problem I have with BookBub is that in some cases the offers only apply to one of the stores, and that doesn’t usually include Amazon Spain, but you might be luckier in Canada. I think you would enjoy it as well, but yes, there are many books to read and a lot of them much less pricey. Perhaps the library?
      Have a fabulous week!

Thanks Olga. Yes, you are right, often on trad published books the ebook price is almost the same as paperback, that’s when I order paperback because for that money, I want to have the tangible book. And yes, I already have added to my wish list, so I will wait for holiday special. Thanks again. <3

        1. Thank you, Debby. I’ve managed to get some trad published books at very low prices recently, so let’s keep our fingers crossed. And do take care. ♥

            Thanks again Olga xx

  6. I’m glad to hear Dawn French wrote a book and that it’s a good one, too.
    Can’t wait to read it
    Thanks and hugs

    1. Thanks, Christoph. I was aware she’d written some autobiographical stuff but hadn’t caught up with her novels. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Take care. Love to Ryan and the girls. ♥
