I was born in Barcelona and have lived in the UK for many years now. I'm a writer, translator (English-Spanish and vice-versa) and I'm a medical doctor and worked in Forensic Psychiatry many years. I also have a BA and a PhD in American Literature and Film, and a Masters in Criminology. I've always loved books and apart from writing them I review them often. I write a bit of everything, check my books for more information and my about page for links. My blog is bilingual, English and Spanish.

  1. Your “mash-up of thoughts” conveyed your admiration of the book. Excellent review. And oh my gosh, that opening is awesome!

    1. Isn’t it just, Priscilla! Thanks for your comment. Although I tend to use a standard format for my reviews (to make sure I don’t forget anything that might be important for other readers), sometimes it doesn’t seem to suit the specific book. Enjoy your week!

  2. Outerborough Blues sounds like an interesting book. Thanks!

    1. Thanks, Dan. It is, and I will keep tracking the author’s work. It’s one to watch, for sure. Stay well!

  3. I agree about those opening lines. That would draw me in like a well-hooked fish! I have a penchant for stories that take place over a short time period (though I rarely write any myself) and have a feeling this book might be just the thing for me.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Thanks, Pete. I think you’d enjoy this one, and I am sure it could be adapted into a great movie or TV series as well, but it would take a very good team of people because the way it is told works quite well. And you’re right. The fact that it takes place in a week gives it a great dynamism and helps focus the story. Have a fabulous week!

  4. This is an interesting sounding book, Olga, I enjoyed your review. I agree the opening paragraph is excellent.

    1. Thanks, Robbie. This novel seemed to demand a different kind of review. Since I read some advice from Hemingway on starting a book with a “true sentence”, I’ve paid attention to novels’ openings, and although they aren’t always in tune with the rest of the book, I must admit that some of the best books I’ve read recently start with quite a bang as well. Enjoy the weekend!

  5. Olga, you’ve certainly caught my interest with your review. Very intriguing. Hugs on the wing.

    1. Thanks, Teagan. It is a fascinating book. Good luck with your writing and enjoy the weekend.
