I was born in Barcelona and have lived in the UK for many years now. I'm a writer, translator (English-Spanish and vice-versa) and I'm a medical doctor and worked in Forensic Psychiatry many years. I also have a BA and a PhD in American Literature and Film, and a Masters in Criminology. I've always loved books and apart from writing them I review them often. I write a bit of everything, check my books for more information and my about page for links. My blog is bilingual, English and Spanish.

  1. I’ve heard so many good things about St. John Mandel’s talent. I’m not surprised you liked Sea of Tranquility, Olga. Great review!

    1. Thanks, Priscilla. She does write beautifully and has a very personal way of telling stories. All the best.

  2. It sounds excellent, but if it references previous characters, perhaps I should start with the first book.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Thanks, Pete. Sea of Tranquility can be read in its own right, as it is not a true sequel, but I think it is definitely worth reading the three of them if you can (and I found the metafictional aspects particularly interesting). Stay safe and take care, Pete.

Welcome back Olga! As you know, I’m not really a time travel/sci-fi reader, but your review is quite compelling. The Glass Hotel sounds familiar. Why do I feel like it may have become a movie? 🙂 <3

    1. Thanks, Debby. I hope you’re better. I haven’t heard about The Glass Hotel becoming a movie, but I wouldn’t be surprised, because although I haven’t watched the Station Eleven TV series, I’ve heard good things about it. The author writes beautifully, so I’m happy to read her in whichever genre she chooses. Stay safe and enjoy the weekend”

  4. HI Olga, thanks for this comprehensive review. I am not a sci-fi fan but as this isn’t hardcore sci-fi, I think I would like it.

    1. Thanks, Robbie. I think you’d enjoy the beauty of the writing, and it is a book of ideas (and I particularly enjoyed the writer character as well), so yes, I also think you’d enjoy it.
Good luck with all your projects and have a great week!

  5. HI Olga, A fantastic review, although I don’t really read science fiction. It sounds very intriguing. Toni x

    1. Thanks, Toni. I’m not a big reader of science fiction either, but I’d happily read anything the author writes. Enjoy the rest of the week.
